(Mostly) Carnivorous Eats at Seo Ra Beol

Ah, Korean BBQ–one of the best types of bbq out there. Ever since Hae Woon Dae started to go downhill a few years ago, I haven't found an excellent Korean BBQ place in Atlanta. So how did Seo Ra Beol fare?

Seo Ra Beol is located in Duluth, like most other Korean places. They open 24 hours, 7 days a week. So after a long night partying in midtown, you can drive all the way to Duluth to have some late night grub.

I did find out, however, like the other 24/7 Korean places I know, the service tends to go downhill the later you come. I didn't come that late, but the waitresses seemed a bit absent minded. They seemed to be a step late in serving certain dishes. Maybe they just needed a cat nap.

Banchans - Stuff You Eat the Meat With

Being a good little Korean restaurant, they brought out their banchans. They served us mostly your basic, boring banchans. They did have some exotic banchans like pickled crabs.

It seemed strange, however. We came with a fairly large group, and the servers didn't distribute the banchans evenly. So one side of the table got certain banchans the other side didn't get. I thought it seemed a bit odd.

My Side of the table got these boring banchans. The other side got the good stuff.

The Best Part (as always): The Meats!

The banchans aren't the stars of this place anyway, so it's okay. The main stars should be the meat! I did like the meat. We ordered the rib tips, the rib eye, the marinated rib eyes, pork belly, and other stuff that I can't remember. They all tasted good. I liked the marinated rib eyes the best.
I can smell it sizzle now.

Like traditional Korean BBQ places, Seo Ra Beol gives you lettuce to make your "meat burrito" with. The trendier places usually gives you the thin rice cake thingies (duk bo sam). Seo Ra Beol did not offer those. It's okay, I like the traditional lettuce method anyway. It feels less messy. The lettuce feels more authentic, less sticky, and you can wrap more stuff inside it.

They also give you a small bowl of beef broth, which tasted lovely. I think every order of meat comes with the deonjang stew too. I can't remember. Although, I think I only saw 2 bowls of deonjang stews even though we ordered a lot more meat than that.

Other Edible Treats

At the end, we ordered neng myun. The neng myun tasted delicious after eating all that meat. It offered a nice contrast from the smorgasbord of meat we ate. It felt cool and refreshing.

I highly recommend you eat neng myun afterwards too. Even if you feel too full to eat anymore, just try to stuff it down. It tastes good.

One of my dessert, half eaten already before I could take a picture.
I thought the neng myun would make a great dessert, but they surprised me with their actual dessert:  shik hae–a cold, sweet rice drink. It tasted like typical shik hae, cool and sweet.

Mr. Kitty's Thoughts

I enjoyed my experience here. Despite some service hiccups, they can be overlooked since those ladies seem to work hard and late. If you're hungry around 3 AM and in the mood for some meat, check out Sel Ra Beol.

I don't think it's the best Korean BBQ I've eaten, so I guess my search still continues. But I still enjoyed it. Mr Kitty gives this place 4 paws up.

Fuego Mundo is on Fire

I'm sorry guys. Like an idiot, I didn't take pictures of the food. I'm still getting used to this whole taking pictures for a food blog thing.

As a back up, I blatantly stole the pictures from their website. Hey, it works. I just hope their lawyers don't sue my tail off.

Anyway, let's get to the actual review:

The Food

First, let me get this out of they way: Their burgers suck. They advertise it as, "The world's best burger." Don't believe them. It tastes like a giant McDonald's burger. The bun, meat, and everything just tastes low quality to me.

Doesn't it look yummy? No way, just go to Evos if you want a burger at the Prado.
It surprises me on how low quality the burger tastes and looks. I like their meat dishes, but their burgers turns out as a huge disappointment.  Fuego Mundo, you disappoint.

Now for the good parts: their meat dishes. I will give praise for their meat dishes. They offer various combinations of steak, chicken and fish. I usually get the steak combinations, and they always taste  good. They season the meat liberally. It comes with fried plantains and a healthy side combination of your choosing.

Finally, the good stuff.

Fuego Mundo's sides consist mainly of vegetarian or health-conscious style dishes. They offer various vegetables, quinoa, beans, and plantains. If they didn't offer meat, I would say Fuego Mundo seems like a good place for people on the Ornish diet. I'm not a big fan of their sides, however; since being a carnivorous cat,  I rather just have more meat.

Overall, I think Fuego Mundo is going after the health conscious market. I don't know how much salt they sprinkle on the meats, but everything seems healthy. Even the cuts of meat they use taste lean and don't have much fat.

If I ignore the burgers, I think I like everything else here. I like the unique, South American taste. It gives a nice alternative to my regular lunch food I get.

Are Their Prices on Fire too?

If you mean on fire, do you mean kinda expensive? Yes, the food here costs a lot. For lunch, you can expect to pay around $11. However, I do enjoy coming here regularly even though it costs a bit more than the other usual lunch places. And the dishes do taste higher quality to me. So maybe I'm getting the right value.

Curry Curry Thai!

For my first post, I'm not going to post about some fancy-smancy restaurant inside the perimeter. Nor am I going to post about some trendy, hole-in-the-wall place that only hipsters know about. Instead I'm going to post about some Thai place in the suburbs.

Curry Curry advertised their Groupon; so Mrs. Kitty and I decided to go there. The have two locations: Smyrna and Marietta. That's right, you non-Cobb people can't have Curry Curry. Sucks for you guys.

Since we lived closer to Smyrna, we went the Smyrna one, the OG Curry Curry.

Noodles and Curry

They named this place Curry Curry. So I decided to get their Pad Thai. Mrs. Kitty seemed more susceptible to branding, so she got the green curry.
When they brought us the food, I immediately started scarfing it down. I smacked my head as I realized I didn't take pictures of the food. Dammit, I'm a food blogger now, I need to take sexy pictures of the food so I can look somewhat legit.

So I whipped out my cheap, 2 year old phone and took some blurry pictures using its crappy camera phone. So don't mind if the food looks ugly. Their food does look better than this. Besides, food is meant for eating, not looking.

Pad Thai after I took a few bites. Notice the two forks. I needed 2 so I can shovel the noodles in my mouth faster.
The Pad Thai tasted good. It had a nice flavor and great texture on the noodles. I usually put a little bit of chili sauce to give it an extra kick.

Green Curry after a few bites. Obviously, Mrs. Kitty followed my lead and ate it with 2 spoons.
Green curry tasted good too.  I liked the zucchini inside. They also gave a bucket full of white rice for the curry. Overall, I liked my dinner.

I have come here before, and I did have other stuff. They all taste good. I like their currys and their noodle dishes like the pad thai and the pad woon sen.

I have been to lunch a few times too. However, just like any other place, the lunch doesn't taste good as the dinner. So if you want a more enjoyable experience, come to dinner.

Also, they give you a ton of food for the price. If you want good value for the food, come to Curry Curry.

The service has always been friendly, and they have cute servers (don't worry Mrs. Kitty thinks they're cute too).
